Obama’s swag

Obama becoming president may have produced our nation’s first black president, but it also may have had some changing effects on the mindsets of African American people. Now the media had very little choice, but to show an African American’s face in a positive light every now and then on our television sets. It was an option before, but now it is mandatory. When I sit down to look at television or the news to be exact, the only time I see African Americans would be on a crime or sports segment. Even on the international segment one rarely sees black people. And that’s crazy given the fact people of color comprise the world. But Obama’s swag is the question at hand. Swag is the way Obama carry his self and the way people view him. Black women, of course, view this man very positively. It had women saying they want to marry themselves a Barack Obama. Okay, so what woman doesn’t want to marry themselves a successful man? It goes beyond that. When I see Barack Obama I see a strong black man. From what I see on television, it seems as if he is handling his business as husband, father and man well. It is my goal to do the same when I start my family. I think it is good that women are setting the aspects of a man higher. When woman do this men tend to up their game a little. And I don’t care what anyone says; women control this world. Men can believe they do, but women hold the secrets to changing this earth at least in a free society. A man would do anything in his power to please a woman. He would change the way he eat, the way he talked, the way he dresses, etc. It’s no surprise. In the community where I am from, women love thugs. I am not a thug and never will be, so I wasn’t one of the most popular kids growing up. The guys who claimed the gangs got the baddest (nice looking) girls. Those girls didn’t look in my direction. Well, some maybe did, but if they were to talk to me it would bring about a lot of hating amongst that subgroup. In my community, thugs were sought after and not the guys who were seriously pursuing their education. And the media may have played a huge role in this. In rap videos and movies, real men are characterized by how tough they act and the way they dressed. Obama may be changing this. He is a real man in my eyes and I hope to have what he has. I hope to be a great father and husband one day. I also hope to make a lasting impact on my community in whatever I do. It’s great that Barack Obama may be the change America needed, but I’m also proud to say he is the change the black community needed.
