The debate that was held this past weekend was interesting to say the least. I wouldn’t call the debate great, but it was okay. Though I would say, in my unbiased opinion, Democrat presidential nominee Barack Obama held a clear advantage over Republican presidential candidate John McCain. Many people felt this debate would be a big heavy weight bout, however, each contender only threw light jabs. Each candidate seemed to want to play it safe. I saw Obama as the better speaker. Due to the recent economic woes that have plagued this country, this issue remained the topic of the night as well as foreign policy. I believed Obama shined when discussing the economy. He was “believable.” By this I mean it seemed as if he really was concerned about the effects the economy was having on middle class Americans. Obama stated McCain was out of touch with America’s middle class and their economic issues. McCain constantly attacked Obama’s experience. Many times he said Obama lacked “knowledge” and “judgment.” I couldn’t help, but laugh when McCain stated during the debate “the naiveté of my opponent” or something to that effect. I will admit McCain did perform better on foreign policy questions. But many Americans are more focused on who is going to take them out of the economic slump. So many Americans may be drawn to Barack Obama right now. I could be right or I could be wrong. The war was discussed in the debate and I am sure this topic worked in favor of Obama. The war is pretty unpopular right now and to try and make an argument on why America should stay in it is a definite no no. And that’s what McCain was stressing. He even pulled a bracelet that was given to him by a parent of fallen soldier. He stated the parent told him to not let her son’s death be in vain. This may have lost McCain some points. The war in many American’s eyes is causing the strain on the economy. While Americans are losing money here at home, billions of dollars are being spent by the day in Iraq. Not to mention countless lives that has been lost. But I am hoping to see more of a slugfest in debates to come. I’ll just consider this debate to be the appetizer to the main dish.

A fairly decent analysis, although you’re not really an unbiased observer as you say, are you? Would be nice to provide some links to what others are saying or even debate clips. ***
